  1. Hi! Okay I can see it--but only if I physically check your blogs. If you leave a comment though (as you did previously), I get a gmail sent to me notifying me that you commented on something that I wrote. Don't worry-I think we are all figuring this out together. Is this the story/topic you want to cover?

  2. oh ok. Well, I reposted my question to your blog...haha I finally figured out how to do that.

Yes, this is the story/topic I want to cover, if that is ok with you. The links are to stories one is talking about a national level, another is about the UK orchestra problems and mentions how American orchestras are run, one mentions specifically Chicago Symphony Orchestra (so local), and the last one is discussing an organization in Peoria (about 40min from ISU) that is trying dif things to keep the local Peoria Symphony Orchestra alive and to keep the Community interested. This is applicable to ISU School of Music students b/c many of us are Music Ed. majors & we need to know this information, so we can work to strengthen and grow our local communities interest in the arts through our students and their families. Also as ISU students we can reach out to this community by teaching lessons, inviting people to concerts, and going out into the community (coffee shops, schools, etc.) to put on performances.

  3. one of the articles is from 2005, but I still feel that it is valid b/c for this topic all the things mentioned are still current problems. The economy is still struggling as well as orchestras are still struggling to keep the interest of the public. The avg concert go-er is the senior citizen. --Orchestras need to figure out a way to become appealing to today's younger generations. --and Music Educators need to fight to keep the arts in schools & and to get the support of the parents and principals of schools for funding purposes since the government is constantly cutting funds.

  5. You have a great start, and I already know that you have a focus, people to talk with, etc. Perhaps now, you can more specifically narrow down: Who do you want to talk to? What will your exact focus be (on a group? a person? etc,). Also nice work on the sources--all newsworthy for analysis.

  6. Specifically I will talk to Music education majors w/in the College of Fine Arts at ISU. I could also talk to Music Educators out in the comunity. My focus will be taking the fact that orchestras are struggling in the US, and considering that fact - ask how or what people will do or are doing to "swing the pendulum" the other direction.
